The Sword
I winced as my hand clasped the hilt of the sword. A tingle ran up my arm. What was I doing?
So long I'd hunted in these woods, and the most exciting thing I'd ever found was a rabbit, and now,
now this! I dropped the sword and it landed with a dull thud on the leafy trail. What now?
Suddenly, the sound of a hunters horn rang out, and I jumped. I had to hide the sword!
I picked it up, and ignoring the wierd tingle, sprinted to my camp, near the edge of the woods, but far
enough in not to be disturbed. Safe in my camp, I began to look closer at the sword. It has a faint
purple glow, and a dazzling emerald in the comfortable hilt. Engraved on the hilt were various storybook
animals: A dragon, a sphinx, a griffin, and others I didn't recognise.
I couldn't keep this! It seemed to much like magic, and magic was dangerous! I certainly couldn't
take it home. I began to dig with my hands, burying it, hiding it. No-one need know it ever existed.
To be continued...
